Pump Street Bakery is about real bread; bread made by hand, using traditional methods and all natural ingredients, baked and eaten within hours. The bakery, on Orford's main square, was founded by Chris Brennan whose excitement about baking initially led him to start selling at Orford’s weekly Country Market. Overwhelmed by how well the bread and pastries were received by villagers and visitors alike, Chris decided to open a bakery with his daughter Joanna. Chris focuses on traditional recipes, including his specialty Vermont Sourdough; a bread that is made using all natural yeasts that are present in the signature Vermont Sourdough starter, and left to rise slowly over a period of days. Other traditional items such as baguettes and croissants are all made by hand using the same attention to detail and with the focus on quality always at the forefront. All of the bread is baked daily at the new state-of-the-art bakery at Gedgrave, on the edge of Orford. It is only sold on the day it is baked so that it arrives at your door fresh and ready to devour.
